4 Shoujo Manga That Deserve A Second Season

The Fruits Basket 2019 remake that covers the entire manga series gives hope to every shoujo anime series that was cut short! There is plenty of other Shoujo manga that deserve that same love with a second season, continuing the story and leaving no more cliffhangers in its wake.

Fruits Basket (( My Anime List ))

This is about a girl, named Tohru, who comes across a house in the woods. Turns out that the people she meets are cursed to turn into animals of the zodiac when hugged by the opposite sex. The whole anime is about her meeting every one of them and slowly breaking down the curse. The anime explores friendship, self-discovery, and love and staying positive despite the darkness of an ancient curse. The first anime was aired in 2001, the original anime never went past that first season, which touched on just the beginning of a long journey.

Fruits Basket 2019 will explore Tohru’s complete journey with the Sohma family and dive deeper into the curse. A second season has been confirmed with this anime. Hulu has the complete Fruits Basket 2019 season 1 and the aired episodes of season 2. Here’s hoping for this version of the anime to continue all the way to the end. If you want to know how much the original anime missed on the original shoujo manga Fruits Basket: the manga was a total of 23 volumes, the original anime starts at volume 1 chapter 1 and ends volume 7 chapter 38.

Vampire Knight (( My Anime List ))

This anime doesn’t even scratch the surface to the full manga, barely getting to the nitty-gritty history of the night class like the need for having it in the first place. Yuki Cross works at night to keep the vampire night class at bay and goes to class during the day with the other human students. Even though she can barely keep her eyes open, she still has enough energy to keep the secret of the night class. The King of the night class always keeps a sharp eye on Yuki which I always thought was odd, but after reading the manga, it is for good reason.

Seeing all of this on the big screen, or at least the one in the living room, would have been awesome and having this shoujo manga finished with a third season and hopefully a fourth. If you want to know how much the original anime missed on shoujo manga Vampire Knight: the manga is a total of 19 volumes, the anime starts at volume 1, chapter 1, and ends volume 10 chapter 46.

Ouran High School Host Club (( My Anime List ))

This shoujo manga/anime is about a girl, named Haruhi with boyish looks who gets a scholarship at a prestigious high school that is meant for first-class students with rich and well-known families. Trying to find a quiet place to study, she stumbles across a host club full of beautiful boys. With the perception that girls can do just as much as boys and appearance not meaning so much to her, Haruhi goes on a journey with this club. She goes through a change in her morals, getting to know these boys on a deeper level and also experiencing a little bit of romance.

In the anime, it only touches on some of what happens between Haruhi and the boys. For example, her fear of thunder, the mindset of the twins, and how Haruhi views herself have to change. But the anime leaves out just how much trouble all of these boys go through just to keep Haruhi’s secret, the boys growing up together and the boys learning how to move on. All of this would have been great to see in another season of the anime.

If you want to know how much the original anime missed on shoujo manga Ouran High School Host Club: the manga is a total of 18 volumes, the anime starts at volume 1, chapter 1 and ends at volume 9, chapter 37

Yona Of the Dawn (( My Anime List ))

The red-haired main character, Yona, is the princess of a country she doesn’t know too much about. Everything about this anime is wild from the beginning. For example, how Yona is in love with this tall blonde man who we find out to be her cousin. Her sweet cousin does a shocking U-turn and Yona is now a fugitive along with a bodyguard who has known her since childhood.

The first season gives a much-needed back story to why things are the way they were before Yona’s world completely shatters. From there the adventure continues and stops at a terrible cliffhanger after she finds all of the dragon spirits to help her take back her home. The character development is insane. From growing connections between her and her companions to watching her eyes open to the country that she has been so sheltered from. This deserves a second season that includes the battle for her home and the possible romance in the love triangle between Yona, her cousin, and her bodyguard.

If you want to know how much the original anime missed on shoujo manga Yona of the Dawn: the manga is ongoing, currently at volume 32. The anime starts at volume, chapter 1, and ends at volume 8, chapter 47.

The Year Of Remakes?

During this long quarantine, there is plenty of time for binge-watching these unfinished shoujo anime. However, with the remake of Fruits Basket and newer episodes currently airing, there may be a chance that this year will be the year of more worthy remakes to come.
