As events and publications are continually pushed back throughout this year, and into the next, it can get difficult to keep track of everything that has been rescheduled. While certainly not the only media that has been affected, delayed films and shows have been particularly difficult to deal with.
Many programs that we’ve been looking forward to watching have been postponed…and postponed…and postponed again. Although some still managed theatrical releases in the second half of 2020, many skipped straight to streaming services or won’t be shown at all until 2021 or 2022, for the time being. Here’s a list of some delayed movies and tv shows that have been rescheduled so far:
The One And Only Ivan, Now Streaming On Disney+
Disney’s animated film The One and Only Ivan, adapted from Katherine Applegate’s children’s novel of the same name, was set for a theatrical release on August 14th, 2020. The theatrical release was canceled, and the film was released digitally on August 21st, 2020.
Mulan, Now Streaming On Disney+
The long-awaited live-adaptation of Disney’s 1998 animated Mulan film had an original theatrical release date set for March 9th, 2020. The theatrical release was canceled in the United States, and the film headed to Disney+ on September 4th, 2020, for a premium fee.
Soul, Streaming On Disney+, December 25th, 2020
Originally slated for a theatrical release on June 19th, 2020, Disney/Pixar’s animated film, Soul, premiered instead on October 11th, 2020, at the BFI London Film Festival. A wider theatrical release has been canceled, and the movie will be released digitally on December 25th, 2020, on Disney+.
Raya And The Last Dragon, March 12th, 2021
This animated film was originally set to release on November 25th, 2020, but has been rescheduled for a March 12th, 2021 release.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s meticulously-planned schedule took a hit this year, and with multiple films to reshuffle, many have already been pushed back as far as 2022. Balancing both Disney- and Sony-owned properties, here’s how the roster currently stands:
The New Mutants, Available Now
The New Mutants faced delays long before 2020, with a release originally planned for April 2018. The Disney acquisition of 20th Century Fox pushed back planned reshoots until the film was released without reshooting on August 28th, 2020.
Morbius, March 19th, 2021
Set in the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters (SPUMC), Morbius was originally slated to release on July 31st, 2020. The film will be the second in a shared universe with the 2018 Vemon film.
Black Widow, May 7th, 2021
Natasha Romanov finally gets her own feature film in Black Widow, only for its May 1st, 2020 release to get pushed back an entire year to May 7th, 2021.
It is set to be the first film in Phase Four of the MCU.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage, June 25th, 2021
The third film in the SPUMC and sequel to 2018’s Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage has been moved from a release of October 2020 to June 25th, 2021 to accommodate Morbius.
Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings, July 9th, 2021
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be included in Phase Four of the MCU, and will be the franchise’s 25th film. Its original February 12th, 2021 release date was meant to line up with the Chinese New Year, but has been pushed back to July 9th, 2021.
Eternals, November 5th, 2021
Eternals takes place after the events of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, and was originally slated to be released on November 6th, 2020. The film has been pushed back almost a year to November 5th, 2021.
Untitled Spider-Man: Far From Home Sequel, December 17th, 2021
After nearly-failed negotiations between Disney and Sony almost canceled this film altogether, this third installment of the MCU’s Spider-Man storyline featuring Tom Holland has been moved from July 16th, 2021 to December 17th, 2021.
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, March 25th, 2022
This sequel to both Avengers: Endgame and 2016’s Doctor Strange has been moved from a May 2021 release all the way back to March 25th, 2022.
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2, October 7th, 2022
This animated sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was originally set to debut on April 8th, 2022. It has since been pushed back a few months to October 7th, 2022.
Wonder Woman 1984, December 25th, 2020
This sequel to 2017’s Wonder Woman has been postponed from a June 2020 theatrical release to a simultaneous theatrical and HBO Max digital release in North America on December 25th, 2020. It will be released internationally in countries without HBO Max on December 16th, 2020.
The Batman, March 4th, 2022
This reboot of the Batman film franchise has been delayed from a June 25th, 2021 release all the way to March 4th, 2022.
The Personal History Of David Copperfield, August 28th, 2020
An adaptation of Charles Dickens’ novel David Copperfield, The Personal History of David Copperfield enjoyed its world premier on September 5th, 2019 at the Toronto International Film Festival. While it has been released in Europe as well, the American May 8th, 2020 theatrical release was delayed to August 28th, 2020.
Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, January 15th, 2021
This sequel to the 2018 film Peter Rabbit, adapted from Beatrix Potter’s stories of the same title, has seen a few delays since its original U.S. release on April 3rd, 2020. The film is now slated to show a year later on April 2nd, 2021 in the United States.
Without Remorse, February 26th, 2021
An adaptation of Tom Clancy’s 1993 novel and spin-off of the Jack Ryan series, Without Remorse was set to be released on September 18th, 2020. It is currently slated for a February 26th, 2021 release.
Candyman, August 27th, 2021
Candyman, the sequel to the 1992 film of the same name, is the fourth installment of the film series based off Clive Barker’s short story “The Forbidden.” The film has been delayed from its June 12th, 2020 release date to August 27th, 2021.
Dune, October 21st, 2021
Dune is planned to be a two-part adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel of the same name. Originally scheduled to be released on November 20th, 2020, then December 18th, 2020, it has been pushed back to October 21st, 2021
Jurassic World: Dominion, June 10th, 2022
Jurassic World: Dominion will be the sixth installment of the Jurassic Park film franchise, based on Michael Crichton’s 1990 book of the same name. A filming hiatus delayed the original June 11th, 2021 release date to June 10th, 2022.
The Woman In The Window, TBD
The Woman in the Window is an adaptation of A.J. Finn’s novel of the same name. The film was scheduled to be released on October 4th, 2019, but was originally delayed to May 15, 2020 due to re-editing. After eventually being pulled from the 2020 release window altogether, the film has yet to be rescheduled.
Death On The Nile, TBD
Death on the Nile is an adaptation of Agatha Christie’s 1938 novel of the same title. Meant to be a follow-up to 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express, this Hercule Poirot film was removed from the 2020 release plan and is currently expected sometime in 2021.
In The Heights, June 18th, 2021
This upcoming film is an adaptation of Hudes’ and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s 2007 stage musical of the same name. Previously scheduled for a June 26th, 2020 release, the film has been delayed almost a year to June 18th, 2021.
West Side Story, December 10th, 2021
West Side Story is an adaptation of the 1957 Broadway musical of the same name. Initially slated to be released on December 18th, 2020, the film has been delayed to December 10th, 2021. The new release date coincides with the 60th anniversary of the 1961 film adaptation of the original musical.
Monster Hunter, December 25th, 2020
Based off the video game series of the same name, Monster Hunter was originally slated for a September 4th, 2020 release. It was moved back to April 23rd, 2021 before getting moved up to December 25th, 2020.
Uncharted, July 16th, 2021
Uncharted is meant to be a prequel to the video game series of the same name. The film has seen delays ever since 2016, but had finally settled on a March 5th, 2021 release before being shifted yet again. It is currently expected to take the original release date for the untitled Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel of July 16th, 2021.
Tomb Raider 2, TBD
This sequel to the 2018 reboot of the Tomb Raider film franchise — based on the video game series of the same name — has been removed from the 2021 release calendar and currently has no expected release date.

David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet, Now Streaming On Netflix
A cinematic release of David Attenborough’s documentary was originally scheduled for April 16th, 2020. It premiered on September 28th, 2020, and was released on Netflix on October 4th, 2020.
Free Guy, TBD
Initially set for a theatrical release on July 3rd, 2020, Free Guy has been removed from the 2020 release schedule and is currently expected sometime in 2021
The French Dispatch, TBD
This Wes Anderson film was originally set to premier at the Cannes Film Festival on May 12, 2020. Delays have pushed it back to a tentative 2021 release, with the possibility of it debuting at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.
Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0 (Shin Evangelion), January 23rd, 2021
Based on the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion, this fourth installment of the Rebuild of Evangelion series has been delayed from a June 27th, 2020 release to January 23rd, 2021.
The King’s Man, February 12th, 2021
A prequel to the Kingsman film series, The King’s Man was delayed from its November 19th, 2019 release date to February 12th, 2021.
The Many Saints Of Newark, March 12th, 2021
The Many Saints of Newark is a movie prequel to the drama series The Sopranos. Its September 25th, 2020 release date has been delayed to March 12th, 2021.
No Time To Die, April 2nd, 2021
The 25th installment of the James Bond film series and Daniel Craig’s final role as the titular character, No Time to Die has been rescheduled from its original April 2020 release several times before settling on an April 2nd, 2021 date.
Bios, April 16th, 2021
This post-apocalyptic film has been moved from an October 2nd, 2020 release date to April 16th, 2021.
A Quiet Place: Part II, April 23rd, 2021
A sequel to 2018’s A Quiet Place, the film enjoyed a New York City world premier on March 8th, 2020. The theatrical release was meant to follow later in March of 2020, but was delayed and is currently scheduled for April 23rd, 2021.
Godzilla VS. Kong, May 21st, 2021
Godzilla vs. Kong is the fourth installment in Legendary’s MonsterVerse and a sequel to both Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island. The film had been delayed multiple times, eventually moving from a November 20th, 2020 release to May 21st, 2021.
Spiral, May 21st, 2021
This ninth installment of the Saw franchise has been delayed an entire year from its original May 15th, 2020 release to May 21st, 2021.
Infinite, May 28th, 2021
This science fiction film has been pushed back from an August 7th, 2020 theatrical release to May 28th, 2021.
F9, May 29th, 2021
Also known as Fast & Furious 9, the film has been moved from a May 22nd, 2020 release to May 28th, 2020 after No Time to Die took its April 2nd, 2021 slot.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife, June 11th, 2021
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a direct sequel to the 1984 Ghostbusters film and the 1989 sequel, Ghostbusters II. The film was originally set to be released on July 10th, 2020 but has since been moved back a year to June 11th, 2021.
Top Gun: Maverick, July 2nd, 2021
A sequel to the 1986 Top Gun, Top Gun: Maverick has been rescheduled several times from its original July 12th, 2019 release date before settling on July 2nd, 2021.
Minions: The Rise Of Gru, July 2nd, 2021
Minions: The Rise of Gru will be the sequel to 2015’s Minions and the fifth movie in the Despicable Me franchise. It has been delayed from a July 3rd, 2020 U.S. release to July 2nd, 2021.
Halloween Kills, October 15th, 2021
Halloween Kills will be the 12th film in the Halloween franchise. It was originally slated to be released on October 16th, 2020, but was pushed back a year to October 15th, 2021 to keep a Halloween release date.
Snake Eyes, October 22nd, 2021
Snake Eyes is a prequel to the G.I. Joe film franchise. The film has been moved several times from a March 27th, 2020 release before settling on October 22nd, 2021.
Mission: Impossible 7, November 19th, 2021
The seventh Mission: Impossible film has been moved from July 23rd, 2021 to November 19th, 2021.
The Matrix 4, December 22nd, 2021
The fourth installment of the Matrix series, this film was initially set for release on May 21st, 2021. It was postponed to April 1st, 2022 before getting moved up to December 22nd, 2021.
John Wick: Chapter 4, May 27th, 2022
This sequel to John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum has been rescheduled from a May 21st, 2021 release date to May 27th, 2022.
Indiana Jones 5, July 29th, 2022
The currently untitled fifth installment in the Indiana Jones franchise has been delayed from July 9th, 2021 to July 29th, 2022.
Mission: Impossible 8, November 4th, 2022
This Mission: Impossible 7 sequel was similarly delayed by a few months, moving from August 5th, 2022 to November 4th, 2022.
Fargo, Season 4, September 27th, 2020
Season 4 of Fargo was originally set to premier on April 19th, 2020. Production of the show was delayed and the season finally aired on September 27th, 2020, ending with its 11th episode on November 29th.
The Walking Dead, Season 10, October 4th, 2020
The season finale of season ten of The Walking Dead was originally expected to air on April 12th, 2020, but was delayed until October 4th, 2020.
Supernatural, Season 15, October 10th, 2020
The series finale of Supernatural, after 15 seasons, was originally set to air on May 18th, 2020. After shutting down production in March 2020, the episode finally aired on November 19th, 2020.
Loki, 2021
Loki will be released on Disney+ as one of the company’s several miniseries included in Phase Four of the MCU. Production was suspended in March 2020 until September 2020. The six episode series is currently anticipated to be available for streaming in early 2021.
The Witcher, Season 2, 2021
Filming for season two of The Witcher resumed in August 2020, but the show currently only has a tentative air date of sometime during 2021.
Stranger Things, Season 4, TBD
Production on the fourth season of Stranger Things halted on March 16th, 2020 and resumed September 28th, 2020. Netflix has not yet announced a release date.
The Flash, Seasons 6 and 7, TBD
Although the two seasons have been confirmed, production on season six has been shut down as of March 13th, 2020. Filming for season seven was expected to begin on October 1st, 2020.
