Five Sites Where K-Pop Fans Can Make Friends

Although there are millions of K-pop fans all around the world, it’s not easy to find friends who also listen to the music. You might meet someone at school or work who is also a fan, but typically people want to meet several others who share the same interest. Well, look no further than the internet! There are many social media sites where one can find friends who they can talk to about their favorite idols. Here is a list of five of the best social media sites where you can join the K-pop fan community.

Twitter

Twitter is arguably the best social media site to make friends. It has 330 million monthly visitors, and groups such as BTS, NCT 127, and Blackpink have millions of followers. If you want other fans to follow your account, one of the ways you can do that is to mention which group or groups you like on your page. Many K-pop fans use the name of their favorite member or group as their display name.

You can follow other fans and interact with them by replying to their tweets, direct messaging people, or joining group chats. You can also use Twitter to find out when K-pop groups are performing in a city near you. If you’re an artist, this site is a great place to share your fan art that depicts K-pop idols, whether it’s a painting, a drawing, or an edited photo. Fan art is very popular in the K-pop fan community and you never know who might be impressed with it. It could be your favorite idol themselves.

Tumblr

While the K-pop fandom community isn’t as active on Tumblr compared to other sites, you can still praise idols with many other fans on there. Every day, people post pictures, gifs, and videos of their favorite idols. You can also join a group chat and talk to other fans about how much you love an idol, how much you find them attractive, how much they’ve changed your life for the better, and the list goes on.

You can also showcase your fan art here. If you’re a writer, you can write an alternate universe story, or “au” for short, to attract fans. “AUs” are very popular on sites like Tumblr and Twitter, and the more bizarre the story line is, the better!

Instagram

Many K-pop groups have Instagram pages where they all post pictures of themselves or promotional photos for their albums. There are also groups that have their own individual pages, such as the members of Blackpink. Some idols will go as far as responding to fans in the comment section, though this is a rare occurrence.

If you want to make friends, simply follow other K-pop fan’s pages. Leave a comment under their pictures! Start a conversation with them via direct message. What makes Instagram fun is that, like Tumblr, there are so many pictures and videos you can marvel at. You could also post your fan art to grab the attention of other fans.

Reddit

Believe it or not, you can find a lot of K-pop fans on Reddit. The most popular sub-forum is “r/kpop.” If you are a BTS fan, you can go to “r/bangtan” and have conversations with other ARMY’s (BTS’s fanbase name). These forums attract thousands of people daily and they foster riveting conversations about idols and the industry in general.

Fans on Reddit tend to be friendly, and civilized conversations can be had whether you agree or disagree with someone on a particular topic. If you want to make a friend, you could respond to someone’s thread, respond to someone’s comment under a thread, or start a thread yourself! A discussion about which hair color looks best on your favorite idol could go a long way.

YouTube

Lastly, you can find fellow K-pop fan friends on Youtube! This is where you will find all the music videos of your favorite K-pop group, some of which have more than a hundred million views. You will also find many compilation videos, which showcase different clips of K-pop groups doing different things like variety shows, talking to fans on V-Live (a site where idols do live broadcasts and talk to their fans), etc.

If you want to learn some facts about your favorite k-pop group (which tends to be more fun than reading Wikipedia), you can watch a guide video that explains where idols are from, what their interests are, and so on. Under these videos, you will see thousands of comments from fans. You can have a conversation with them there. You could also follow their Youtube channel if they have one!

Go Forth + Make Some Friends!

There are several more sites where one can find friends, but these are the top social media sites that are frequently populated by K-pop fans. If you struggle to socialize with others because you’re shy or you feel nervous talking to other people, still give these sites a try. You would be amazed at the number of friends you could make and what experiences can come from it.

Many people meet up with their online friends in real life and hang out with them. Oftentimes, K-pop fans will even go to concerts together. Who knows, you might find your best friends for life!
