How Do You Celebrate Fall?

Fall is here! Get ready to change from hot summertime to cozy fall with supernatural TV shows, spooky podcasts, scary movies, and magical stories. Grab your favorite pumpkin flavored treat and your fuzziest blanket and choose a favorite from the list below in order to get you started on one of my favorite times of the year.

Fall Feeling TV Shows

Fall is the time to lose yourself in your TV. You can binge watch shows that have multitudes of seasons on your favorite streaming site.

Netflix has many different types of paranormal shows. Supernatural follows the demon-hunting brother duo, Sam and Dean Winchester. And after fifteen seasons, they are finally ending their reign over the CW. American Horror Story has a new horror story every season. The first season is a fan favorite, but there are eight seasons ranging from a haunted house to a witches coven.

So you are bound to find one you like. The Haunting Of Hill House is about a family living in a haunted house where their mother dies and everyone was affected drastically differently. The second season comes out in October following a new story with a few of the same actors. Amazon Prime streams Teen Wolf, a new favorite of mine. Scott is bitten by a werewolf resulting in Stiles, his best friend, and him learning about the supernatural living in their own town, including the well-known werewolf pack, the Hale family.

I have watched through the first two (out of six) seasons and the chaotic energy of Stiles along with the brooding attitude of Derek and Scott changes the usual melodramatic teen drama tone. This stereotypical drama changes from the common momentous mood to also having a comedic side.

Spooky And Halloween-Time Reality TV

If you’re looking for reality TV, Halloween Wars and Ghost Adventures are my two favorites to binge during fall. Halloween Wars starts mid-September following 18 teams that will carve pumpkins and create amazing spooky displays each week to showcase their talents in order to compete for a $50,000 prize.

Ghost Adventures, if you don’t know by now, is a show following a group lead by Zak Bagans to the scariest and most haunted locations in the world to get evidence that ghosts are real.

Time For Some Fall Podcasts

When looking for something to listen to on long drives or during work, podcasts are usually where people go. With it being Halloween season, most people want to get into the spooky spirit at all times meaning they will be looking for spooky podcasts to listen to.

Two Girls One Ghost is a paranormal centered podcast that makes you feel like it’s Halloween year-round! Corinne and Sabrina discussed two locations and stories of the paranormal that they decided to cover that week. These two talk about new stories and locations I hadn’t heard of while bringing up classic paranormal stories like Bigfoot, aliens, possessions and plain old ghosts.

My Favorite Murder is a podcast by Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark talking about classic serial killers along with lesser-known cases. Be warned: this is a true-crime comedy podcast. They use humor to deal with the worst and ugliest side of humanity and remind their listeners to “stay sexy and don’t get murdered” at the end of every episode. Stuff They Don’t Want You To Know could be classified more as a conspiracy theory podcast than a spooky podcast. They talk about aliens, history, true crime, and cryptids. There are also plenty of other conspiracy theory podcasts but this is my personal favorite.

The No Sleep Podcast is a podcast where narrators read from the top stories on the reddit.com thread of “NoSleep”. There are all kinds of stories on this podcast but as the title leads you to believe, you may not get a lot of sleep after listening to the original horror stories.

Fall-o-ween Movies

Of course, the main holiday people look forward to in fall is Halloween. Spooky costumes and witches have graced our screens for many years and have produced some classics like Halloween (1978), Halloweentown, Hocus Pocus, and the Harry Potter series. Halloween (1978) is my all-time favorite scary movie to watch during this time of year. Michael Myers is a murderer that escapes captivity and goes on a killing spree in his hometown in a scary, blank-faced mask and a blue jumpsuit. Halloweentown, despite its similar name, is available on Disney+.

It is about Marnie and her siblings saving Halloweentown after just learning that they are part of the Cromwell witch royalty. Hocus Pocus, also available on Disney+, is another movie about witches, the Sanderson Sisters, coming back to life and trying to become immortal by draining the life of children.

The premise of the movie is a little dark for Disney but very fun. The Harry Potter series is also about witches but has more of a “regular movie” vibe instead of being based specifically around Halloween. The movies begin mostly around the beginning of school, September 1st.

Falling In Love With The Season Through The Movie Screen

Fall doesn’t always mean Halloween and scary movies of course. When I think of fall, I always think of fuzzy socks, warm blankets, hot chocolate, and romance or heartfelt movies. This part of the list contains movies that you will definitely need tissues for.

Stepmom is a beautiful story that showcases the struggles between the mom, the stepmom, and the children during normal and extreme circumstances. Five Feet Apart is actually one of my favorite romantic movies. Stella and Will both have cystic fibrosis resulting in them meeting and falling in love in a hospital, all while having to stay six feet apart. The Fault In Our Stars is about two teenagers that fall in love in a cancer support group. Both are Hollywood type movies but very tear jerking.

Different Types Of Fall Spirits

Personally, these autumn movies are perfect to help me fall into the season of romance and spooky tales but that doesn’t mean that they are for you. There are plenty of other scary tales of the supernatural along with love stories of all different types of relationships. I hope I provided a new choice to help get you into the fall spirit no matter what your type of fall is.
