Is WitchTok Casting A Spell On TikTok Users?

The popular short-video app TikTok has become a safe haven for everyone on the witchy spectrum, and thus, the WitchTok hashtag has emerged. Through WitchTok’s emergence, its messages of positivity and light have been a driving force for its popularity. Among other things, WitchTok also manages to be a sanctuary for racial equality and diversity. Therefore, whether you’re a beginner, a spell master, or needing an extra splash of positivity, WitchTok has you covered.

WitchTok 101

There are many different paths when it comes to practicing the craft. Some practitioners stay in the light, while others dabble in the darker side, also referred to as the occult. However, regardless of the path chosen, the main objective is balance and empowerment.

Despite how films and television shows have portrayed witches, they aren’t the evil old woman or man living in the woods that consume the flesh of wandering children. In fact, modern-day witches and warlocks are quite the opposite. Most of these new wielders of magic are here to spread positivity and light, which is why WitchTok is becoming so powerful.

What To Expect On WitchTok

When first exploring the WitchTok hashtag, it can be a bit overwhelming. The most popular content on the hashtag offers spells and incantations for beginners. However, this side of TikTok is comprised of much more than spells and witchy advice. WitchTok also covers astrology, tarot card reading, and fortune-telling, among many other things involved with the supernatural.

The tarot card reading and fortune telling have become wildly popular on WitchTok and often make it onto the For You Page (the popular page). A newer trend among some of these WitchTok creators has been to make multiple videos with different outcomes and state that whichever video you encounter first is truly meant to you. Personally, I have come across quite a few of these videos, and their primary purpose is to perpetuate positive affirmations to others.

For the most part, WitchTok is a positive place. Nonetheless, there will always be a few exceptions to any rule. Given the content of WitchTok, some creators prefer to stay on the darker side of the occult. The content these creators tend to showcase involves rituals and spells meant to harm others, so steer clear if you’re not an experienced witch.

These fantastical elements of witchcraft illustrated on WitchTok may seem a bit much, so remember to take everything with a grain of salt. To some extent, most spiritual beliefs have their skeptics and critics. Objectively speaking, a bit of skepticism can be healthy and can also provide you with different perspectives. However, always remember to follow your intuition.

A Deeper Purpose

To revisit the notion that WitchTok’s primary purpose is to spread light and positivity, its greater purpose must also be addressed. The greater purpose of WitchTok is to expose political injustices and preach unity. Over this past summer during the height of the Black Lives Matter movement, many witches dedicated their time and energy to fighting for this cause. A popular hashtag within WitchTok that emerged was WitchesForBLM.

With nearly forty-five million views, the WitchesForBLM hashtag has done a fantastic job of spreading imperative information about the movement to vast audiences. A popular video on the hashtag by the TikTok user ArynDriftwood depicts a scenario of her attending a BLM protest and encountering a fellow witch. By the end of Aryn’s encounter with the fellow practitioner and protestor, they cast protection spells for each other.

Despite the heavy symbolism of magic and witchcraft, the ultimate message that WitchTok intends to express to its watchers is self-empowerment and equality. With that being said, hopefully, we can all agree that regardless of someone’s ethnicity or background, they too are deserving of equal rights.

Head Witches And Warlocks

There are many creators in the WitchTok realm, and by many, I literally mean thousands. Each creator has their own unique flair, and the more you explore WitchTok, the more you realize the diversity in this realm. However, there are a few accounts that I would like to recognize.

Thee Muses

This dynamic witchy duo, Thee Muses, are two of the most popular WitchTok creators. The queer couple actively showcases their tarot card readings and incredible paintings to their five hundred and fifty-thousand TikTok followers. One of their most-watched TikTok videos portrays them as Aunties protecting a loved one through the craft with a dash of ominous foreshadowing.

Aside from the two million likes on this video, it exudes a feeling of comfort, which is partially why their content has become so wildly popular. Just like their TikTok handle suggests, they are indeed muses and continue to inspire the WitchTok community with their uplifting and comedic content.

Casper Crafting

On the more educational and informational side of WitchTok resides the user CasperCrafting. Casper provides excellent tips and tricks to “baby witches,” which is the name given to beginner witches. The video below with over one million views provides the audience with a safe and easy way to craft a self-love jar.

Some of Casper’s other content includes witchy crafting ideas and other great tips for witches of all levels. Anyone visiting Casper’s TikTok page will notice the abundance of positivity, and as her bio reads, “Please do not bring negativity here.”

Maren Altman

Last but certainly not least, we have the TikTok user Maren Altman. Arguably, Maren is the most popular WitchTok creator at the moment due to her allure and psychic gifts. Maren uses her vast knowledge of astrology to provide useful advice for her followers, which she customizes based on their astrological signs. However, most of Maren’s hype began to grow once she began discussing the election and making predictions that have since come to fruition.

During the brief run of the “December 21st” rumors from doomsday fanatics claiming the end of the world was approaching, Maren made sure to debunk them with this video. There are many more videos from Maren on various topics, but for now, her focus lies within the political and economic realms. Utilizing her vast astrological knowledge to bulk up your wallet and provide useful financial advice.
