Unsolved Mysteries

Are You Ready To Solve A Case “Again” In Unsolved Mysteries Volume 2?

We had high praise for the first season of the “rebooted” – or “continued” – series of Unsolved Mysteries. The series gave us an updated version of a classic show that we know and love, one that still continues to haunt us to this day. The magic of Unsolved Mysteries is that it lives on forever, even when people don’t. You can always go back to watch an episode and it feels current. You wonder if those people were found or what happened to them in a 12-hour Reddit scroll at 1AM. The magic is that it sticks in your brain, at least for a little while.

As the series continued, we did not expect a second so soon, but quarantine, for once, has been nice to us. It was unveiled shortly after that it was getting a season two and much like the first – we were anticipating the release. The first season, in record time, made some incredible improvements and it opened cases along the way. The directing and cinematography were updated and the episode even featured an international unsolved mystery. (As this season features a few as well. While many stated that they didn’t “prefer” those episodes, we think it adds to the charm that UM can help anyone, anywhere.)

More Cases, More Time

If you are living on the outskirts of the USA and do not know what Unsolved Mysteries is then the premise is quite simple, thankfully. The show follows a format of popular “crime news” shows, such as America’s Most Wanted with John Walsh (which is now The Hunt or The Hunt with John Walsh) and To Catch A Predator with Chris Hanson. During the late 80s to 00s, crime new television was popular, the words “Do you know where your kids are” lives in a 90s kids’ brain forever. However, Unsolved Mysteries did something different at the time of those previously mentioned shows. They didn’t cover current missing children or current crimes, but instead missing persons or missing treasures.

The cases often bleed into murders but the focal point is on missing persons or treasures. The updated series features murders, missing persons, and missing treasures. The stories are gripping, the interviews are telling, and you often wonder yourself where these loved ones are. It follows the lives of the person looking alongside a short segment of who they are looking for and what they mean to them. With each interview and story being told, you become entwined with the lives of these people whom you don’t even know.

Unsolved Mysteries Volume 2: Six “Brand-New” Cases

In case you were on the team that did not prefer the international episodes, get ready to enjoy them now because there are more than 2 – or at least 2 – in this second season. We think they are great and it causes you to actually pay attention to the episodes as you have to read the subtitles. Nevertheless, each of the six episodes is much of the same as the last organization wise. If you have seen the previous season, the season has ranked up their production. They have fantastic directing, nearly movie-like, the series feels more like an authentic documentary than a “news centered television series.”

The mini-documentary-styled episodes feature wonderful interviews about each case and what they entail. While we cannot dive into the specifics of the episode’s content, but each of the episodes in the second season is quality. By the end of the season, we anticipated more. The 6 episodes feel more like 4 when you watch them back-to-back or watch them in turn while doing something else. They are quite addicting to watch as well.

Without spoiling too much as these are real-life cases, we will say that the second volume keeps much of what the first volume imitated. It keeps the consistency of the pace while also making it nice to look at.

The documentary-style creates the element of realism and although real cases, this creates the perfect atmosphere to solve these cases. So as you think about Unsolved Mysteries Volume 2 and Google and search Reddit for hours on end, remember that these are real cases and they are cases that do need to be solved, so if you have any information always do the due diligence to help solve these “unsolved mysteries…”
